We know the founders began to fight, but why did Slytherin find it necessary to leave? Just up and go? Was there a bigger problem than the Pure Blood one? Did Salazar want to lead the school?

I think that they had probably been together too long and had too many disagreements. Slytherin was more set in his beliefs than the others so when he couldn't get more stuff to go his way he got frustrated and left.

I think he found something else. Something involving more power where it was only purebloods that had anything to do with it. He didn't get on with the others so I think he left because of that or he could have been thrown out.

have you ever wondered if salazar slytherin went on to found durmstrang? it would sort of make sense since they teach a lot of darker stuff. well maybe not, but its just a thought.

And it's a very good thought Which would do for an extremely cool group-fic lol But I think Salazar was just stubborn in his views and wouldnt' have it any other way. He didn't want to share a school with mudbloods and half-breeds. He was down with pureblood, and wouldn't have filth darkening HIS doorways. And you know when you're friends with someone for SO long, that you suddenly start to drift? Especially when you begin to do something as a group, and you're around each other ALL the time? I think this is the case. Salazar became sour because he was getting frustrated with his friends, and couldn't take their opinions anymore. He had his own views and didn't want to hear anyone else's

He could have gone to Durmstrang. Its an interesting theory. I think it had something to do with the Chamber of Secrets. He's left his mark and the others haven't in any other way. So he knew if he left the Slytherins would still have something special to say they could own. Hence why that book is my ultimate favorite.

We don't know for sure if the other founders left any past relics for their houses, but it makes sense. I agree with all the above points, never really thought about it!

well i dunno about that.. i mean.. was the chamber of secrets on the map? if so then why did the twins never say anything about it in book 2?? because THEY had the map before Harry..it wasn't as if it just appeared.. but i like the Durmstrange Theory.. it's pretty cool

hmm...yeah kudos on the durmstrange theory.....maybe he secretly never liked the other three founders but wanted a school for the dark arts and when they wouldnt go for it completly he found a school that would be a little more open to that kind of stuff
