We had a topic about regular fics, but we've never had anything specific. How do you, as readers and writers, feel about slash? Do you love writing it? Hate reading it? Think it's entirely gross or rather quite nice? You can spill your guts. You can bash, you can yell, you can type IN CALL CAPS! Just don't insult the members We're all friends here.

i've never been a fan of it. i wont read a story that's all slash, but if it's only a little and the rest of the story is straight then that won't stop me from reading it. i'm not against anyone who likes it or anything, it's all about personal preference.

I've read a few. They can be good if they don't get.. intimate?! Lol. But that's just me. You might like the whole deal.

I love slash when it is well written. I don't like the whole male preg stuff... or when they make Draco and Harry suddenly fall madly in lust/love with each other (which reminds me... I need to bash Harry/Draco...).
My favorite slash ship is Colin/Blaise (especially when paired with Draco/Ginny)... actually, Colin or Blaise with anyone is just... good. I also have to admit that I like Oliver Wood/Marcus Flint and Oliver Wood/Charlie Weasley (*swoon*). Of course, there's the classic slash ship- Sirius/Remus. Honestly, I was so disappointed in the 6th book... *le sigh*
When it comes to femmeslash... let's see... I like some Hermione/Ginny fics (though a lot of them are stupid snog fics with no plot) and Cho with anyone (I find Ginny/Cho to be highly ironic and therefore enjoyable ;D).
As long as the intimacy (lol, I loved that brit) isn't too descriptive I can stand it...
I've never actually written slash, I suppose I should give it a try though.

Man I hate slash. Not to be a homophobe, but really. Most slash stories don't even have a good plot, the writer just wants them to get it on.
The slash pairings that bug me the most are Remus/Sirius, Sirius/Snape, and Harry/Draco. Come on. They're not at all realistic nor am I open minded enough to pretend they are. I don't see the hype.
It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Remember that.
the only thing I can say for Slash is that I'd prefer it over Draco/Hermione. That's how much I hate it.

Very, very true. Usually, when a slash ship isn't the main focus of a story (for example, Draco/Ginny with a smidgen of Colin/Blaise on the side ) the slash seems to be more romantic and less... touchy touchy, disgusting, pervy. I forgot to mention how much I hate Severus/Harry. Not only does the whole teacher/student factor disgust me, but I think it does a horrible disservice to Snape's character. I don't see why that was necessary. It didn't add anything to your post except, perhaps, make it offensive. (Even though I know you didn't mean it to... you just wanted it to help prove your point) The thing that gets on my nerves is that some Harry/Draco shippers seem to think it's actually going to happen in the books. *le puke* However, I suppose it's just another fanon ship, so I can't really bash them too much without being hypocritical.

I like it but I have to be in the mood for it, if I am going to read it. Sirius and Remus are my fav slash pairing

My adam and steve quote was meant to be funny...sorry
but I just can't picture any of the HP characters doing the same-sex pairing deal. I just can't. It makes my hair curl to picture Ron paired with Blaise or something. And, what I hate the most, is when they do a Draco/Ginny and Blaise goes gay with Ron, so therefore Ron is off of Ginny's case and Blaise plays gay BFF matchmaker. I just can't see that. And then there's all the gay puns thrown in and the thought of Draco having a gay best friend doesnt' seem very likely.
Idk, maybe it's just me.

It's more of the whole 'romantic' thing i guess... and that doesn't really bother.. but i don't think i'll ever be interested in Main Slash stories..because.. it's just not very realistic to me... i me an i know that in the books Draco and Ginny wont get together...but putting Slash in there makes it even harder to believe... :shrugs:

When I read fanfiction I try not to compare it to the books because, honestly, if I wanted the books I would reread them. I like reading fics that have the characters portrayed in different ways... not necessarily OOC but not completely 'by the book' either. So, when I read slash I try not to automatically go: "oh my gosh, that would never happen in the books because so-in-so loves this person and they would never, ever change- not in a million zillion years. I can't believe the author did this; it's so disgusting" (not that any of y'all are like that.) Meh, my bad. It's always hard to tell when people are joking when it's written down. I've only read one fic where that happened, but it was very well done. Draco and Ginny were keeping their relationship a secret and so were Ron and Blaise... when they were all exposed, being hypocritical didn't keep Ron from going into 'protective older brother' mode, so that cancelled out the 'off of Ginny's case because he's dating Slytherin too'. As long as the story isn't overloaded with gay puns, I'm fine with it. An author like Cassie Claire or Spankerella could make it work. Otherwise, I don't want to be smothered by puns (same as in any het fic). I don't like it when they make the gay guys play matchmakers either. It's just done so often that it... ugh, it's just annoying. However, that doesn't mean they can't give a little hint every now in then... just not full on scheming and everything. If that made sense. Considering how prejudiced the Malfoy family is in the books, I agree with you on Draco not wanting to have a gay friend. Of course, there's not much he could do if his gay friend was still in the closet; he'd have no idea he was friends with someone who was gay. Then again, some of the DEs might bat for the other team, so who knows how they stand on that issue.... I suppose it's all open to interpretation. Yeah it is. It's just you. Or maybe it's just me; I do have strange tastes when it comes to pairings. From what I've seen, it would take a long time to find a completely slash pairing fic that would be believable. Simply because, as I think I've mentioned, most of the authors put the characters together so they can shag like very horny rabid bunnies. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for in a fic. If I'm in the mood for a believable fic, I'll go for a simple Draco/Ginny, Ron/Hermione fic. If I'm in the mood for something totally off the wall I'll go for a Draco/Ginny, Harry/Hermione/Ron triangle, Ron/Pansy/Blaise triangle type deal. If I'm in the mood for a simple romance story I'll go for Draco/Ginny with Colin/Blaise and either Ron/Hermione or Harry/Hermione (I like both of these ships equally... well, actually, I think I like Harmony a little bit more because they appear in more angst fics ). Everyone has their own strange tastes. Apparently, mine are just really strange compared to the rest of you.

lol. okay.. let me correct myself.. when i said i dont' really like Slash because it isn't believable..i didn't really mean book standards... it's more like.. MY views on them.. and being the stubborn person i am..i don't really like to change my views on things such as that... so i guess when i say 'it would never happen' i'm more reassuring myself because what i see as 'realistic' is different from that..
dunno if that made any sense..but.. ( i guess my draco/ginny will never get together in the books thing just muddled my point lol)

I agree with you, Renor Faer. I don't usually go by book standards on pairings, but on my own. and that's usually what 'realistic' means when I say it. The only things I characterize by the books are the Characters actual personalities. When I say a pairing totally contradicts the books, it's because their personalities are totally uncompatible (coughdramionecough). I mean, how can you change how a character acts? If you do that, you might as well change the fandom as well, because you're no longer in Potter-fiction. I alteast like to see In character-ness. and I mean, you're always going to see some OOC when you write about anyone but Harry (which is why it's so hard to write about Harry), because we always see that person from Harry's eyes and nobody else's, so we don't know how they are when they're not around him. But let common sense come into play when writing a story, will you? Ok, back on the topic of slash (excuse my ranting), this is why I pretty much can't stand slash pairings. I refuse to believe Sirius and Remus are gay together, because it's so silly to think about, it's not in their character. "Embraced like brothers" is exactly what it means: they love eachother like brothers. NOt like incest brothers. And Ron/Colin...I can KIND OF see ron going gay, just because he's very VERY feminine. He gets upset easy and he pouts when things don't go his way. He argues about little things and he gets over-jealous. He's whiny and girly, I can see him crossing over. And I can def. see colin being gay. Because look at him. You know no girl is going to go for that Just kidding. But he too is very girly. Look at him! He's Harry Potter's biggest fan! But I don't see Harry doing it, or Blaise doing it. I don't see Draco being gay or Snape, or any of the Slytherins for that matter. I can't picture Herm and Gin going at it and I can't see Seamus & Dean doing it either. I can't suppor someething my mind can't picture actually happening, and trust me, I can be very open minded about some things. But not this. I mean, there are SO many het pairings out there. So why do people need to go to slash? I'm talking all-slash stories, not just on-the-side stuff. How can you get into reading it? It really boggles the mind.

I'm not really a slash fan because to me it's not relateable. I suppose I don't really have anything against it, I just don't find it enjoyable or realistic. And I just don't like it when people think there's no other option for Sirius or Remus other than eachother, because what girl who WOULDN'T love them... I certainly do! So that's sorta my thoughts on slash.

strangely enough.. Harry always..even before i really got interested in fanficion, struck me as a possible homosexual.. it's kind of crazy i know.... but it just kind of makes sense in my brain..because i think about it and...harry's liked...what? 2 girls in the 6 years that he's been at Hogwarts? and one of them his best friends sister...who it would be easy to form an attraction to because she's described as really pretty, and he spends so much time around her... anyways..kind of rambling.. i mean.. i'm most definitely not saying that's the only option for Harry..because.. well..it's just not. but if i ever see it as a side story it doesn't really bother me. and Blaise to me is kind of like Ginny... there's a vague idea about his character, but not a lot is known..so i can see him as either gay or straight.

Really? Harry doesn't at all strike me as a homosexual. Acutally, I really don't see any of the HP characters as one. The only one I COULD is actually Quirrel... But thats it...
